Services

Please see below a list of some of the services we offer in our salons.

Balayage

At Salon M we consider ourselves experts in colour, with balayage our speciality. Balayage is a very on trend look where the root is a different colour to the mid lengths and ends and is blended in to flow naturally in to each other. It is a skilled task to get the blend perfect and we have higher level training from the Wella key account technical team to perfect our skills. The most popular kind of look is the silver balayage or the blonde balayage. However there are many ways to still achieve a beautiful colour using browns and coppers. The image to the right is a great example of this.

Balayage FAQs

Most colours need a toner to create the desired finish. Some clients hair will lift naturally to the colour they desire however, 9/10 will need a toner. If you are looking for a silver or very icy blonde then sometimes 2 toners will be required.

Everyone’s hair is different and some lift far easier than others. We use wella blondor to lift the hair, as it is a premium brand with intense conditioning agents in. A good guideline is 4-6 levels of lift. Our colour starts at level 2 which is almost black and goes up to 12 which is the lightest blonde. This should give you a good indication of how much your hair will lift.

The answer to this is yes, but most likely not on the first visit. It can depend on how well your hair will lift and how much black you have in your hair, also which type of colour you have been using. Usually a level of lift will be 4-6 levels but there’s no guarantee it will lift these levels if there is a large build up of colour in your hair. We use olaplaex and now new blodorplex to help protect the hair when lifting. But realistically to go from black or almost black to blonde, you will be looking at 3-4 services.

The new client offer price is “from” £69.95. The new client offer includes the wash cut and blow dry and the lightening part of the services. If you need your root colour changed then this will be an additional charge and if you need a toner this will be charged separately too. Also we always recommend using a treatment to protect your hair, which is a separate charge also. If you have left your hair for a while and have a large root then there may be an extra charge for extra product used. Also if you have mountains of hair and we have to use more than the usual amount of colour, there would be a small extra charge for this too.

Balayage is one of the easiest colour styles to maintain. We would recommend every 6-10 weeks depending on how much your hair grows, colour fades etc. We also offer a discount toner and blow dry service in between visits to refresh your colour.

On average expect to be in the salon 2 and a half to 3 hours, depending on the length of your hair.

Full Head/Half Head Highlights

A full head of highlights (or lowlights) is where we use foils, and colour fine slices of your hair to create an all over blonde look. Like balayage a toner is usually required, unless you are one of the lucky ones who’s hair lifts perfectly.

A half head of highlights is where just the parts that are showing are coloured ie root and sides. The average highlights client will have a full head followed by 2 half heads and so on.

We would recommend every 6 – 8 weeks for your highlights especially if your root is dark. It also obviously depends on how much your hair grows but 6 – 8 weeks is a usual guideline. The more regular you have your highlights done, the better condition it will be and the easier to maintain.

Colouring your hair with an all over colour is the simplest way to cover grey hair however, the root comes through pretty fast. By colouring your hair using highlights your root won’t be visible for a while and will blend much better when coming through. If you imagine an all over dark on grey hair, the root would probably be visible after a couple of weeks. With highlights you could easily stretch to 4 – 6 weeks before anyone would really notice.

On average expect to be in the salon approx 2 hours 30, depending on the length of your hair.

Tinting/Colouring

At Salon M we use Wella koleston perfect for our main permanent colour, wella colour touch for our semi permanent colour and we also use Ilumina which is our premium brand for ultimate shine for colouring and toning. When booking appointments you will need to book a full head of colour and cut and blow dry (or just blow dry), a semi permanent, roots or root stretch. These are the main 4 services our tints are used for. Whether you want a sleek, dark colour or a vibrant pastel colour, our colour range will have exactly what you are looking for.

COLOUR FAQs

The new client offer price is “from” £59.95. The new client offer includes the wash cut and blow dry and the colouring of your hair. If you need your hair lightened first then this will be an additional charge and if you need a toner this will be charged separately too. For example if you have brown hair and wanted to go lighter, we would have to pre lighten your hair and then add the colour. Also we always recommend using a treatment to protect your hair, which is a separate charge also. If you have left your hair for a while and have a large root then there may be an extra charge for extra product used. Also if you have mountains of hair and we have to use more than the usual amount of colour, there would be a small extra charge for this too.

Most colouring will not require a toner. If you are having a basic all over colour then a toner won’t be needed. If we need to pre tone your hair then yes you will need one. In most cases though, just the colour is suffice.

On average expect to be in the salon for approx 2 hours.

Yes you can. We would pre lighten your hair and then add the colour you desire. It can depend on how well your hair will lift and how dark your hair is, also which type of colour you have been using.
